Springsure is a rural town in the Central Highlands of Queensland, about 68 kilometres south of Emerald and 335 kilometres west-south-west of Rockhampton. The surrounding country is associated with the Gangulu and Wadja peoples, while the town itself takes its name from a pastoral run established in 1861 and named for its permanent spring. Surveyed in 1863, Springsure was once served by a railway that operated from 1887 until 2013. It sits beneath Mount Zamia and the rugged Minerva Hills National Park, and is known for the nearby Virgin Rock — a striking cliff face on the mountain — and for the heritage-listed Springsure Hospital Museum.
