Wickepin, WA

Wickepin is a small wheatbelt town in Western Australia, about 214 kilometres south-east of Perth and 38 kilometres east of Narrogin, in the Shire of Wickepin. The name is of Aboriginal origin, first recorded in 1881, though its meaning is not known. The town grew as a farming and railway centre in the early 1900s, with the line reaching it from Narrogin and the townsite gazetted in 1908. Wickepin is best known today for its links to the writer Albert Facey, author of the much-loved memoir 'A Fortunate Life', who farmed south of the town in the 1920s and 1930s; his original homestead was moved into the main street in 2000 and is open to visitors.
