By Lauren McCaleb · Reviewed by Dylan Duncan ·
Norwood is a residential suburb on the south-eastern edge of Launceston, in northern Tasmania, lying about five kilometres from the city centre. It sits on a flat-topped plateau above the valley of the North Esk River, which traces much of its eastern and northern boundary, with the bushland of the Punchbowl Reserve close by to the north. The locality, which takes in the smaller pocket of Queechy, was opened up for housing in the 1960s and was formally gazetted in 1963, with its main period of growth following through the 1970s and 1980s. Today it is a quiet, established residential area of older family homes interspersed with newer houses, served by its own primary and high schools.
