Northcliffe, WA

Northcliffe is a small forest town in the South West of Western Australia, about 28 kilometres south of Pemberton and some 360 kilometres south of Perth, in the Shire of Manjimup. It is surrounded by towering karri, marri and jarrah forests and sits close to the Warren, D'Entrecasteaux and Shannon national parks, with both the long-distance Bibbulmun Track and the Munda Biddi cycle trail passing through. The town was established in 1923 under the State's Group Settlement Scheme, which brought migrant families onto the land to clear farms from the bush. It was named after Lord Northcliffe, the British newspaper proprietor, who had died the year before. Logging and dairying shaped its early decades.
