Kingswood (SA), SA
By Lauren McCaleb · Reviewed by Dylan Duncan ·
Kingswood is a small, established suburb in Adelaide's inner south, within the City of Mitcham and bounded to the west by Belair Road and to the north by Cross Road. It is unusual in being a relatively modern creation: the suburb was formally established in 1945, when the council consolidated several older subdivisions, among them Kingswood Estate, Kingswood Park and Mitchamville, to tidy up a patchwork of overlapping names. Its boundaries were enlarged again in 2003 with portions of neighbouring Netherby and Mitcham. An electric tramway linked Kingswood to the city centre from 1917 until buses took over in the nineteen-fifties. The quiet residential streets are dotted with local landmarks, including Kingswood Oval, the gracious old residence Eynesbury House, the Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Church, and the historic Torrens Arms Hotel.
