Drummoyne, NSW

By Lauren McCaleb · Reviewed by Dylan Duncan ·

Drummoyne sits on a peninsula in Sydney's Inner West, about six kilometres west of the central business district, with the Parramatta River wrapping around three of its sides and lending many homes wide water views. It serves as the administrative centre of the City of Canada Bay. The suburb takes its name from Drummoyne House, an early Georgian-style residence whose owner named it after his family home of Drumoyne on the Clyde in Scotland; the word is said to come from a Gaelic phrase meaning a flat-topped ridge. Drummoyne Oval, built beside the river as a Depression-era works project, has long been the home of the local rugby club known as the Dirty Reds, and also hosts cricket. The Bay Run, a popular waterside loop around Iron Cove, draws walkers and runners throughout the year.
