Broomehill Village, WA

Broomehill is a small town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, about 302km south-east of Perth, 20km south of Katanning and 22km north of Tambellup. It was named after Sir Frederick Napier Broome, Governor of the colony, after the Great Southern Railway reached the area in 1889; the townsite was gazetted in 1890, and a hotel, police station and post office soon followed. Wheat grown for the Co-operative Bulk Handling network is the mainstay, alongside sheep, with newer ventures in viticulture and even barramundi aquaculture. Broomehill is best known as the starting point of the Holland Track, a 700km route blazed by pioneer John Holland in 1893 to guide prospectors to the Coolgardie goldfields.
