Boddington, WA

Boddington is a town in the Peel region of Western Australia, on the Hotham River about 120 kilometres south-east of Perth. It takes its name from Henry Boddington, a settler who farmed and grazed sheep in the district in the 1870s and camped at a pool on the river that came to bear his name. The original settlement grew with the timber industry and the Hotham Valley Railway, built in 1912, though devastating bushfires in 1961 hit the timber trade hard. Today Boddington is best known for mining: it is home to one of Australia's largest gold mines, run by Newmont, and a major bauxite mine, while still serving the surrounding farming district. An annual rodeo is held each November.
