Goodwood (SA), SA

By Lauren McCaleb · Reviewed by Dylan Duncan ·

Goodwood is an inner-southern suburb of Adelaide, lying just beyond the parklands beside the Royal Adelaide Showgrounds in the City of Unley. Its spine is Goodwood Road, a busy strip of shops, churches, businesses and a library, with the local Goodwood Primary School giving the neighbourhood its village character. The name dates to the first survey of 1839, when the land was granted to the South Australian Company and called Goodwood; a small village had taken shape by the early 1840s, and in 1849 the settler Arthur Hardy subdivided his holding into roomy blocks he named Goodwood Park. The suburb has long been well connected, with the Belair railway line running through it and the city-to-Glenelg tram passing close by.
